Welcome to Week #5 of Inspiration Tuesday!
Last week, we talked about what makes you weird, because honestly, that’s probably what you’re best at! I challenged both myself and you all to go out and pursue what you’re weird at. To put aside your fear, or nervousness about what people will think and just go for it! Don’t you want to go where no one has gone, and be fantastic at it?
So tell me – how did it go? What did you do that makes you weird?
Leave me a comment and let me know what you were amazing at!
Now, on to this week’s Inspiration!
This week, I stole a bit of Google’s motto.
Leave it to Google to have a life-changing (or at least business-changing) motto, and this is only part of it. But, it’s the part that I love the most.
I actually have this motto hanging on the wall in my office because I love it so much. Initially, I discovered Google’s motto through EBA, and it really helped me to bridge the gap between looking at this blog, as a hobby and business. I wanted to stay down to earth, real, and completely honest, but if I wanted it to become something more, then I also had to view it as a business.
For me, that was revolutionary.
Why couldn’t I apply that motto to everything?
For example, with regard to my family, what would happen if we focused on them, and what they wanted? Won’t focusing on their happiness, and their needs ultimately make life easier on you, and everyone happier – including yourself?
And for your your job (or day job, in many cases), what would happen if you focused only on your customers or clients, and their hapiness? Too often, it is easy to get caught up in the day-to-day monotony, or struggles, or drama, and lose sight of what really matters! Your customers are the reason you have a job – should you focus on them?
And finally, I always circle back to the blog – but really, it’s just like any other business. Focus on your readers when brainstorming, writing content, responding to comments, and even on social media interaction and you’ll be shocked at the change! One great way to do this, which I just recently started, is a Reader Survey – a fantastic way to find out exactly what your readers think about your site and what they want out of it that you’re not giving them.
All of this is to say that sometimes being selfless will bring you the most happiness and success.
Obviously, it worked for Google.
Can you make it work for you??

I’ve definitely embraced the weird by pursuing extreme frugality and our plan of moving to a homestead. Life is more fulfilling when you do what you’re best at and what you enjoy most! The idea of focusing on the end user also resonates with me–that’s what I try to do with my writing–always think about the reader. Thanks for these nuggets of inspiration!
