New Year’s resolutions are typically short-lived.
Losing weight, getting organized, making more money. All of these are common New Year’s resolutions, and anyone can tell you that about February, people’s resolve starts to weaken.
Gyms empty out, the house becomes cluttered, and you get bogged down by the bureaucracy at work.
Which is why I’m not setting a new year’s resolution, but rather a series of goals, complete with action steps to reach them, as well as these New Year’s resolutions that take very little motivation or determination, and that will benefit me all year long.
Commit to Quality over Quantity
Believe me, your budget will thank me!
When you choose quality, you will pay more up front, but the items you buy will last far longer than the cheaper option. In 2016, commit to doing your research, saving up cash to make a quality purchase, and then taking care of the quality items you buy.
Hold Yourself To A Standard of Grace, Rather Than Perfection
If you tend to overthink things, this one is for youj. When I have too much on my task list, my brain moves a miles a minute, and I can’t get a thing done.
But when you relax and stop with the perfection mentality, your brain will be able to slow down, focus, and accomplish more than you would driving yourself to perfection. Don’t just yourself my other moms, other professionals, or other freelancers. Just yourself by grace, and watch the pieces fall into place.
Move Every Day
No crossfit here! (Unless you love that stuff) Commit to walk, do yoga, or play with the kiddos every single day. Even 10 minutes can make all the difference in your mood and waistline.
Say “Yes” To Cuddles
By say yes to cuddles, I mean that you should say yes to family time every day. Whether it’s 5 minutes or 5 hours, make whatever time you have with them meaningful. Maybe playing a game, reading a book, or cooking a meal together. Turn off the TV and make memories.
Be So Good They Can’t Ignore You
You don’t have to be extraordinary at everything, but you do you have strive for extraordinary-ism in something. Whatever your decide to do, make it your mission to be so unbelievably good, that the experts, others who have done it before you, the influencers cannot ignore you.
Work On Your Dreams Every Day
Whether you’re actively researching, creating, and marketing yourself, or your consciously decide that a day of rest is necessary for your sanity, look at every day as progress towards your dreams. Read an article, write down a new thought, or spend an hour researching. Whatever you want to do, work on your dreams every single day.
Give Back All Year Long
Give of your time, money, and belongings year round and you’ll be surprised the boost you get from it. In the spring, declutter and donate. During the summer volunteer, and during the fall and winter clean unwanted winter gear out of your closets and donate it to those in need.
If you’ve decided to create a New Year’s resolution, good for you! I encourage you to create a plan and set deadlines for yourself so that you can stay on track all year long and hopefully achieve your resolution!
But if you, like me, really struggle with the fallacy of New Year’s resolutions, consider committing to these I’ve listed for you. They’re easy and provide far more benefits than the effort they take.
Do you set New Year’s resolutions? How do you stick to them?
