The Big Guy and I need a vacation. Badly. After Baby RB40 gets here.
Anyone else with me?
Recently, some of our friends took a trip to Big Cedar, The Bass Pro Shops Resort near Gatlinburg, TN. All told, they paid $799 plus tax for a 7-day vacation – and they received $225 in gift cards that they could use to cover meals on their vacation, bringing the total cost down to $574, or $95.67 per night (for a family of 4)! Also, their 6 nights could be broken up and used in 2-night increments within the entire year after the vacation was purchased!
What was the catch?
During the vacation, they had to sit and listen to a 2-hour timeshare presentation – and you know how those are. The salespeople are persuasive, and pushy, and many others ended up roped into a timeshare that they don’t want and couldn’t really afford. Luckily, my friends are frugal like I am, and were easily able to say “no” to the “incredible opportunity.” Make no mistake – timeshares are not worth the money.
Other than the timeshare presentation, our friends had a great time! They were very impressed with Big Cedar, and the place that they stayed had a full kitchen, so they used their gift cards to eat meals at restaurants, and when those ran out they cooked for themselves. Really, as far as vacation costs go, they did really well!
So, The Big Guy and I think we want to try it, but should we?
In our relationship, The Big Guy is the Spender (although he has gotten much, much, better), and I am the Saver – surprise, right? I know that I can say no to the timeshare offerings, but I am not sure about The Big Guy.
So here is my dilemma – Do we take the vacation, knowing that it is a good deal and that if we do not we won’t be able to afford a vacation for 2-3 years, or do we pass and take a more expensive vacation 2-3 years?
What would you do? Has anyone ever done this?

I would do this. It might take some convincing though to get my husband to go along. I have not tried it yet, but would be interested to know how it works out for you if you do it (and I think you should!).
