I am slightly in love with Amazon. If you want to know why in detail check out this post and this post. Generally speaking, they have low, low prices, and coupled with my Prime benefits of free 2-day shipping and Amazon Instant Video, I think it is understandable that I follow Amazon on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest, right?
Recently, I saw a small blurb on my new feed about Amazon Smile, which donates to charities every time you shop. Of course, I had to check this out! Could Amazon actually get better? Here is what Amazon says about it:
“You Shop. Amazon gives.”
- Amazon donates 0.5% of the price of your eligible AmazonSmile purchases to the charitable organization of your choice.
- AmazonSmile is the same Amazon you know. Same products, same prices, same Amazon Prime benefits.
- Support your charitable organization by starting your shopping at smile.amazon.com.
Naturally, this sounds great to me! You can pick from their featured charities or search thousands of others so that you are giving to the charity of your choice. But, I still had some questions, so clicked the learn more link :-)
The Good: You can choose from almost one million organizations, so chances are your favorite charitable organization is on the list. Your Amazon account stays the same even if you shop through Amazon Smile, and if you have Prime, you keep your Prime benefits. Prices stay the same, and for every eligible purchase, the 0.5% donation is made to the charity of your choosing (which you can change at any time).
The Bad: Not every purchase is eligible for the donation. Only those marked with the Amazon Smile logo, are eligible. For me, it doesn’t seem like many of the products that I have bought recently would have been eligible, but then again, my purchases are kind of all over the place :-). Also, the donation is only 0.5%….
My bottom line: Why not use Amazon Smile? It can’t hurt, and while you may not always be purchasing items that provide a donation to a charity, when you do purchase eligible items, it is an effortless way to help others :-)
