First of all, if you haven’t yet, take a minute to follow me via email (on the right), Twitter, Pinterest, or Facebook! Thanks so much!
So, I got a 50% raise, and the Big Guy quit his job to become Mr. Mom with baby RB40……I had my doubts at first, but the new arrangement seems to be working out really well! My house has never been cleaner, and The Big Guy is learning to cook!
- First of all, we did something that was stupid from a financial standpoint, but had to happen from a personal happiness standpoint: We traded in our 2013 Chevy Cruze on a 2013 Chevy Traverseright after Baby RB40 was born. I know. I have been sitting on this little tidbit for 2 months, afraid to put it out here, but here it is. We just didn’t fit in the Cruze, and we were so upside down on it, the only way to get rid of it was to trade it in…..I know :-( However, LOVE the traverse!
- We are credit card debt free! In the budget below, you will see that we are making a massive credit card payment, but that is because I put our entire 6-month auto insurance premium (among other things) on it for rewards points and am paying it off entirely in January! Woo hoo!
- The ATV payment. The Big Guy got an ATV for Christmas. For real. I agreed to finance it with him, but it will be paid off by the end of the year! He is super happy, and for me, that is enough.
- Last, see the huge payment on our personal loan down at the bottom? We will have that paid off by the end of the year too! Watch for many massive payment towards that!
Here’s how it goin’ down in January:
Income: $5,491.25 (January is a 3-paycheck month :-)
Expenses:
Mortgage: $575
Utilities (including phone): 241
Car Payment $670
Gas: $300
ATV Payment: $250
Health Insurance: $222
Doctor: $50
Gym: $22
Life Insurance $31.33
Groceries: $300
Eating Out: $20
Haircut: $40
Transfer to Betterment: $250
Student Loans: $170
Credit Cards: $1,050
Personal Loan $1,200
We have waaayyy too much debt…..what do you think? Do you have any suggestions for me?

Sweet. How did you get health insurance for $222?

We’re lucky in that my husband is in the National Guard. Tricare Reserve Select (for non-activated guard members) is 195 per month for the whole family, and dental is another 27 :-) Our deductibles and caps are super low too, so him staying home was contingent on his staying in the military so we could keep the affordable health insurance, as we cannot afford what is provided through my job.
Thanks for stopping by!
