For a long time, I have thought flowers were a waste of money. For the entire time the Big Guy and I were dating, I told him to be buy me practical gifts. In fact, for the Valentine’s Day before we got married, he got me a Swiffer WetJet.
I know.
Most people would have been upset, but I loved it! I needed some sort of mop, and The Big Guy got it on clearance – what a guy, right? And, just this past Christmas he got me a Dyson Vacuum! I was thrilled! (as if you can’t tell by all of the exclamation points !!!!!!)
However, for Valentine’s Day, I let the Big Guy get me flowers. What I once called a huge waste of money made me really, really happy.
See, I got an office job – and accounting one, to be exact, and my office isn’t exactly colorful. Also, our anniversary is February 11th, exactly 3 days before Valentine’s day. So, for our anniversary he gets me flowers, which last me through Valentine’s day, for which he gets me a practical gift.
Win, win, right?

Girl…go ahead and splurge. I work in a office too, and before I started on my debt free journey this year, I bought flowers every two weeks for myself. I live in Japan and the japanese are big on buying flowers. Most women here don’t wait for an occasion or a gift from their significant other, so there is a flower shop on every corner no lie. One of my employees (who happen to be japanese) told me that in their culture they change the water everyday, and that extends the flowers shelf life. I try to keep to this practice and It is so true….your welcome…I’m here for you. Happy anniversary and valentines day!

That is a really neat custom the Japanese have, maybe we should think about doing that her in the US? I’ll definitely try changing the water every day…don’t want to let all that money go to waste :-)
