During my 1st Year Blogiversary post, I asked you all if you would be interested in my doing both a Pinterest post (since 60% or more of my traffic comes from Pinterest) as well as an income report now that I am actually making some money! Your response was overwhelmingly “Yes!” so I’m going to start doing these Traffic & Income Reports on a monthly basis!
Plus, I really like transparency, in everything really, and I feel like the blogging world is shrouded in mystery!
Let’s get started!
Traffic –
I’m going to share percentage increases from the month before for my traffic stats, not actual numbers :-). Also, data is from either WordPress stats or Alexa.
- Pageviews: 127% Increase
- Unique Pageviews: 136%
- Bounce Rate: 29.8%
- Daily Pageviews/Visitor: 9.4
- Daily Time on Site: 13:45
If you want to start your own money-making blog, you can do so very cheaply. I created a tutorial that will help you start a blog of your own in about 10 minutes, and very cheaply, with prices starting at only $3.49 a month. This low price is only available through my Bluehost link, and when you purchase at least 12 months of blog hosting, Bluehost will even throw in a FREE domain name (a $15 value). Again, this pricing + free domain name is only available through my link, and if you want to make money with your blog, then self-hosting through a company such as Bluehost is essential.
Income –
I’m going to my actual blogging income – the actual numbers! – as well as percentages increases in the income section. Right now my income is small, but when I look at the percentage that it is increasing every month, I am really encouraged!
- Ad Networks: $191.43 – increased by 225%! If you’ve seen our tight budget, you know that every little bit helps!
- Affiliate Sales: $19.50
- ViralWoot – $15.00…you can read more about that when the Pinterest post becomes available! Right now it is scheduled for Saturday, September 13th…..
- Question: The post I had originally intended on is becoming longer and longer, so we have 2 choices: drag it out into 4 or 5 posts in a series, or I can offer it as a pdf download? Preferences? Opinions? I was thinking of maybe offering it for free if you a) subscribe, or b) follow me on bloglovin or any of my social media or c) share it on your own social media. Would that be offensive if I did that? Comments welcome!
Goals for September –
- I want to make $300 from ad networks, which works out to $10 a day….right now I’m blowing that goal out of the water.
- I also want to do another eMeals post…..I love their service and they recently added some awesome new features to it! Maybe that will provide a little boost to my affiliate sales income!
- Lastly, I want to get the Pinterest Guide out….
Whaddya think?

Would you mind sharing which ad networks you are using? Those are great returns!
It is probably in your best interest to offer the pinterest info as a pdf freebie for sign up to an email list. You can take some snippets and do a teaser post to promote it, too.
Gretchen says
I’m definitely leaning towards the freebie for email singup….it seems like the least work on my part, LOL. I use Adsense and Infolinks for my ad networks. Currently I’m in talks with a couple of private advertisers, but for now, adsense is my main one. I think $175 of the total last month was from there. I’ve experimented with a few others, but haven’t been very happy with them.
femmefrugality says
I agree with Anne! I’d totally subscribe to read it!
Brandy @ Busted Budget says
I would definitely be interested in learning more about the ins and outs of pinterest. As for how it is delivered, I really don’t have a preference so I am of no help. I wouldn’t be offended if you asked for follows as I already follow you on Twitter and Bloglovin.
Gretchen says
Thanks for the feedback! I’m looking at publishing the guide on Saturday the 13th, so stay tuned!
Vanessa says
Great post and I am very interested in learning more. Thanks for sharing.
Gretchen says
Thanks for stopping by – I’ll definitely be sharing!
Gretchen says
Glad you enjoyed it! Watch for the Pinterest post on the 13th
Cat@BudgetBlonde says
I agree it would be interesting to know the ad networks – every little bit helps!
Gretchen says
I guess I should have specified! I use Adsense as my main one, Infolinks generates a tiny bit of income and that’s it. I have tried a couple others, but none seem to have ads that I like or pay out very much.
Melissa @ Sunburnt Saver says
I already follow you on Pinterest, Bloglovin & Twitter, so following you wouldn’t be a problem for the Pinterest guide. I’m definitely interested in that- your pins are amazing! Thanks for sharing your ad info – very helpful!
Mr. Frugalwoods says
Definitely do email signups for the guide. Email is still king in the blogging world… plus you’ll probably have tons of opportunities in the guide to push people to follow you on pinterest.
Email gives you a great platform for future marketing endeavors as well.
I’m excited for the guide!
Kipp says
I second the e-mail guide! I need to work on that still…
Holly@ClubThrifty says
Great job! That is how it all starts…and it really adds up over time!
Gretchen says
Thank Holly!
Sarah Schultz says
The one thing I love about reading other blogger’s income reports is that no one makes money using the same methods. It is always interesting finding new (potential) revenue sources or even great tools to try.
Alicia says
I am soooo impressed by the number of page views per visitor – that’s huge (or mine is just very much not that). Thanks for the transparency, by the way :)
Allen @ TheDailyCent.com says
Thanks for the info and transparency! Keep on plugging! Reinvest some of the money into growing your blog. It’s a long road but doable!
Debi @ Adorned From Above says
Thanks for sharing with Adorned From Above’s Link Party. Have a great week.

MMD says
Do those stats you quoted about traffic and bounce rate line up with what Google Analytics reports about your website traffic? 13 minutes per visit and a bounce rate of 30% is absolutely amazing.
Gretchen says
For a long time, my Alexa and google analytics stats didn’t line up, but then I put a line of code in the footer of ever page that basically “pings” google ever ten seconds telling them when each visitor is still on my site. That drastically reduce my bounce rate and increased my time on site!
Ashley says
Thank you for sharing this. This is great info for a fellow blogger. I pinned this already :) So I can be sure to come back to it. Found you on Polkadots on Parade today!
Gretchen says
My pleasure! Thanks for stopping by!
Mrs. AOK says
I know I’m leaving money on the table by not really advertising as much as I could. I’m signed up with different affiliates, and I’ve slacked at adding ads to my blog :(
And, yes, the money would be helpful.
Thanks for sharing :)
XOXO
