Happy Saturday!
I’m feeling pretty lucky right now, as my daughter is still sleeping and I’m able to get some work done! Anyone else know that feeling?
So I’m taking just a bit of time to wrap up days 3,4 & 5 of 31 Days of Finances & Fitness, to see how you’re all doing, how much money you’ve been saving, and to update my own tally!
Day 3 was all about the Cable bill. There is nothing inherently wrong with a cable bill. But just because you can afford something, that doesn’t necessarily mean you should. Which boat do you fall into? Were you able to look into any of the Cable alternatives such as Hulu Plus, Netflix, or Amazon Instant Video? Personally, we haven’t had a cable bill for years, and only have Hulu Plus, therefore, I wasn’t able to save any money.
Day 4 we dealt with homeowner’s insurance. I suggested bundling your coverage, switching companies, or even getting comparison quotes and taking them back to your current insurer to motivate them to drop your rates. I actually did these things on Auto Insurance day, since our auto and homeowner’s insurer are the same. Which strategy did you use? How much money were you able to save??
Day 5 we looked into saving just a little bit of money on gas. Rather than focus on reducing the number of trips you taking, or telling you to get a more gas-efficient car. What I did ask you to do was plan your route efficiently this weekend. List out all of your stops, and the most efficient way to hit them all, without doubling back. I plugged my normal route into google maps, and then I set it up in the most efficient way possible. What I found, by hitting stores all in the same town, was that I saved myself 23 miles. Divide that by the 19 MPG that my SUV gets, and you have 1.21 gallons. At $3.00 a gallon (let’s face it, these sub-$2 prices aren’t going to last forever) gives us $188.75 a year – that’s some serious savings!
Total Savings = $404.75
- Window Film = $60 annually
- USAA = $156
- Cable Bill – $0.00
- Homeowner’s Insurance – $0 (already done in day 2)
- Gas: $188.75
Fitness
Day 3 was a Shoulders & Arms workout – one of my personal favorites!
Day 4 was Yoga, which quite frankly, was welcome relief for my sore muscles, and gave me some serious focus to finish out the week!
Day 5 was Legs & Back, and if I’m being honest, I’m not feeling it yet, but that is probably because I worked out at 8 pm…..let’s see how I feel at 3pm, haha!
How are you feeling? Have you been able to stick with working out every single day?
Also, how are the meal plans working out? Any suggestions for me?
